The Scots Language Society announces
the publication of a new book describing the
rich content of the Scotsoun audio
archive, by its principal creator
A Companion to Scotsoun
by George Philp
(96pp, A5 paperback, £5 inc.
p&p)
This book will be launched at the English
Language Department of Glasgow University, on
Friday 25th September at 7pm to 8.30pm, and you
are cordially invited to join us - space is
limited to 30: please be sure to reply if you
are coming. (The Department is located at 12
University Gardens, Glasgow.)
* The event will be introduced by our Preses,
Dr Chris Robinson, Director of Scottish Language
Dictionaries
* A video message of support from Mike
Russell MSP, Minister for Culture, External
Affairs & the Constitution will outline the
government's commitment to sustain the Scots
Language
* Dr George Philp will introduce his book and
play a few key highlights from the audio archive
* David Robb will give a short talk on the
late Professor Alex Scott, whose biography he
recently published, and who was the first
Professor of Scottish Literature at Glasgow
University, and played a key role in the early
development of the archive
* Mark Oxbrow, Content Manager from Learning
and Teaching Scotland will be present to give a
view on the electronic resources now being
developed by LTS for use in Scottish schools,
with special reference to materials for use in
support of Scots language teaching
Copies of each of the 170 or so CDs
comprising the archive will be on display, and
on this occasion only, a special sampler CD with
26 tracks selected by George Philp will be
available as a free addition to each book.
